Pleiades:  This titled form was invented in 1999 by Craig Tigerman, Sol Magazine’s Lead Editor. Only one word is allowed in the title followed by a single seven-line stanza. The first word in each line begins with the same letter as the title. Hortensia Anderson, a popular haiku and tanka poet, added her own requirement of restricting the line length to six syllables.

Background of the Pleiades: The Pleiades is a star cluster in the constellation Taurus. It is a cluster of stars identified by the ancients, mentioned by Homer in about 750 B.C and Hesiod in about 700 B.C. Six of the stars are readily visible to the naked eye; depending on visibility conditions between nine and twelve stars can be seen. Modern astronomers note that the cluster contains over 500 stars. The ancients named these stars the seven sisters: Alcyone, Asterope, Celaeno, Electra, Maia, Merope, and Tygeta; nearby are the clearly visible parents, Atlas and Pleione. The poetic form The Pleiades is aptly named: the seven lines can be said to represent the seven sisters, and the six syllables represent the nearly invisible nature of one sister.

Softly, these digital runes …..
   undeniably cursed with contemplative quill
gently espied by an imaginative coterie
   shyly avoiding all quantized spectra
….. now exist …..

no tangible legacy to be
cracked ….. faded ….. chipped ….. eroded

yet ….. infinite potential to be
digitized ….. archived ….. copied ….. mirrored

all these scattered, fugitive impressions
be they …..

stained on curled papyrus
   etched by dancing quanta
      burned with enduring passion
   doused with unquenchable spirits
embraced by a quixotic ….. Traveller

….. even …..

coalescent….. ‘tween tremolo souls

All venture t’wards but one path …..

I seek not ….. frail papyrus antitails
so easily dispersed …..

I seek not ….. clarity of tears
so easily confused …..

I seek not ….. rhyme with reason
so easily abandoned …..

I seek naught
   but
      to
         contribute

The essence of Solitude requires Silence

This is the second poem of a somewhat unplanned trilogy which includes following posts entitled Silence and Secrets.

solitude.jpg

Silence

Scarred tears of disconsolate loss
   obsidian etched silhouettes
      now in abeyance of
   wondrous tears of unfolding felicity

each silence …..
every silence …..
this silence …..
   ….. necessary …..
      ….. welcome …..
         ….. earned …..

Only those ….. who have earned the right to embrace
   their own silence …..

….. must harken TO silence …..
   ….. where silence thrives …..

‘tween crimson rose petals
   awaiting their cimarron aurora

‘twixt grains of tidal shores
   carving their rhythmic longanimity

‘mongst dewed mists
   caressing ethereal moments of perfection

midst glacial fissures
   reflecting sapphire passions

within earthbound intended cloudbursts
   chasing their gravity defying afterlife

enringed infinities of their brash souls
dashing headlong towards their perdurable destiny

mistake not silence ….. as impatience

earned silence is only for those
   who truly listen within Silence

….. In the tangled Silence of the Heart
………. In the earned Silence of his Art

…..         …..
….. listen …..
…..         …..

Lyrical, as before …..
….. as always …..
evanescent Atlas sans Legend

grand orbic design

   infinitely inviting ambit
  in majesty of Aurora

L’Abyrinth Alfresco
   fathomless infinite innermost
     vibrant elemental isolation

Often …..
  one strides with more footfalls
  apart from L’Abyrinth

More often …..

Recently, I walked a temporary, unmistakably basic and nearly invisible outdoor Labyrinth. Although constructed of simple yellow nylon rope, this allowed for a more concentrated and unique experience unlike my previous ‘walks’. This is also a companion piece to L’Abyrinth. L’Abyrinth

’tis but a simple leap of faith
  ‘tween
    Hesitant ….. and Patient
still, he is inexorably drawn to
  ….. Insistent

A perfect aureole of kindled torches
  vulnerable thru an onliest entry
    nay, not vulnerable ….. inviting

Ingress, as it should be …..
  as Fate …..
    ….. might decree

Simpler than expected
  yet paradoxically
    breathtakingly intricate …..

No two steps will align his future
No one step will alter his past
Yet every resolute stride
  leads to ….. Moirai

No random soliloquies exist, save …..
a Weaver who clothes each soul
a Surveyor who lengthens every soul
a Cutter who defines all souls

yet Fate Herself
 drafts our impulsive life chronicles
  traced with sweeping, luminous ink
   upon crinkled, ancient papyrus scrolls
layering depth beyond what parchment can retain …..

 The deeper her scrawls …..
….. the richer our journeys …..

All reliant upon Her own practical whimsy

Chartres beckons …..
offering the possibility of …..

rediscovery         insight         clarity
purpose         realignment
meaning         awakening         closure

Whilst crossing the threshold
  His first thoughts emerge
….. and from so long ago …..

When does patience ….. become denial?
When does denial ….. become patience?

Curves necessitate balance …..
Equilibrium of breaths and pace …..
Symmetry of chance and choice …..
  Walk the Labyrinth …..

Seeking the visible centre
so alluringly ….. adjacent
so curiously ….. afar
so wonderfully ….. accurate

….. Namaste …..

A single, sole man
entered a labyrinth

But emanating
from this L’Abyrinth
is someone quite different …..

A solitary, Dragon Soul
has emerged …..

Traveller …..

Scribe

It is ….. Time

A barefoot, lithe, solitary figure
confidently ascends the narrowing spiral wooden staircase
silently cushioned by each aged teak plank
firm mainstays of her purpose and direction
cascading maestros to her rhythm and intent

Beholden to none
 impartial to every peripheral syllabus
  seeking neither solace nor acclaim
emboldened by neither compass nor map

Scribe knows …..

It is ….. Time

Time ….. to once again
embrace her private domain of ….. Words

Sequestered upon this Isle of Trials
her abode, this mortal lodestar

Scribe seeks not to warn seafarers of danger
nor to provide refuge from fault
  nor sanctuary for the wild

Scribe craves ….. the artistry of Script

Polished wooden stairwell behind her
She suspires deeply upon entering her lighthouse
familiar aromas of wood, ink, paper and teasingly ….. light
  infuse her already heightened senses
nourishing that which she most favours ….. Imagination

Circling clockwise…..
 brushing the embraced bronze chariot
  as her prayer wheel
   educing fond memories
    of faraway Bod

Scribe whispers
her secret, intimate mantra for …..
  Chenrezig

Scribe, completing her lamproom orbit
 approaches her driftwood escritoire
  surveys her simple tools of
   Quill, Inkwell and Papyrus
allows herself to exhale her final mantra
     and sets ….. to Write

It is ….. Time

A solitary erne Quill
 lightweight and encouraging
A faceted diamond Inkwell
 brimming with incoming tide
A pristine kelp Papyrus
 blank, only to the tame

All, attend her will
All, invoke her imagination
All, willing participants to the extraordinary

Scribe smiles coyly,
immersing Quill within Inkwell
  ….. Enraptured …..

Inkwell envelopes Quill
  ….. Enthralled …..

All the while,
  tides within and without
 ebb and flow…..
  rise and fall …..
 immerse and envelope …..

It is ….. Time

Scribe brandishes Quill upon Papyrus
as her imagination caresses our mortal realm
offering glimpses ….. of what might be
   ‘tween Zoe and Bios

A single, perfect opaline tear
escapes from the corner of her eye

Scribe is never certain …..
A tear of joy
 or
A tear of regret……

It is now ….. Scribe’s Time ….. to Write …..
