The Quaternary …..

Curators ….. each

Sanctuary for those unaware

Respite for those aware
     of their lone solitudes

Silence for those
     overwhelmed by the indiscreet

Respect for those
who earn and share ….. theirs

          The Four …..

Soil
     offering carpeted foundation and
          verduous growth
     requesting only shared renewal and
          seasonal enthusiasm

Breath
     offering limitless expanse and
          breathy whimsy
     requiring only unclouded extent and
          shy verve

Spark
     offering fervored passion and
          sanguine temerity
     respectful of ancient dignity and
          legendary enchantment

Vapour
     offering cerulean vigour and
          aqueous rebirth
     responsive to Life …..
               Herself …..

Carving translucent runes
     upon Night’s onyx canvas
          inky trails pursuing noctilucent comets
     their universal diary inscribed
          for all to decypher
should they dare …..

Each witnessing wonders of the cosmos
Each charged with mortal duties
     seemingly beneath
          their earned statures and legacies
     yet …..

….. willingly shared
     defining their sacred Virtues

Aye, there be Dragons here …..
There be Dragons …..
     ….. everywhere …..

Yet …..
far more elusive and precious …..

….. there be Imagination here …..

_____________________________________________________

A bit of a long project to write about four basic ‘Elementals’ (Dragons), that love to dance with my muse! The first is already written, entitled ‘The Wyvern of Wickaninnish‘ and represents ‘Vapour‘ ….. mentioned above. The others ….. await their turn on the dance floor, made of starlight, moonbeams and eclipses!!

Adrasteia

Two tears
     always …..
Two tears
     only …..

unnoticed by overshadowed wraiths
fixated solely on dew and gloss

perceived by a solitary heart
     attendant soulfully to ….. possibilities

one azure tear of unparalleled destinies
     as yet unknown to her

one cerulean tear of unrivaled joys
     as met knowingly by her

relics surround her coerced choice of stage
     riveted by flash and flesh

ignorant of her ancestral hardihood
else they would flee this Dictaean Cave

Beyond the revolving chaos …..
seek only those that will ….. share

Adrasteia is the feminine form of Greek Adrastos, commonly known to mean “Inescapable” and/or “Not Running Away“. In Greek mythology, this is the name of a nymph who cared for the infant Zeus, and is also an epithet belonging to the goddess Nemesis.

With

With infinite patience
  one song had been composed
    yet was never performed
      nor recorded
        nor heard

Within finite heartbeats
  two dancers choreographed dreams
    yet were never shared
      nor believed
        nor realized

With outstretched passions
  two hearts astonished their muses
    yet were never illuminated
      nor reflected
        nor mourned

Without stretched heartbeats
no poem would have ever been authored
would have ever have been printed
would have ever been spoken aloud
        would have ever been shared

within each without
  heartbeats echo but once
    throughout abandoned concert halls

Coalesce

should a dust mote be told
that it is but dust …..
yet once was an inferno
at the heart of a star?

should a windswept seed
know of the roots and growth
that lie ahead …..
wherever it will land?

should that seed know …..
of the passionate embrace
amongst petals of a blossoming scarlet rose
and the roar of attachment ‘tween lovers?

every balanced caress
every surprised muse
every original destiny

of wind and cloud …..
of breath and life …..
of rain and bow …..
of rose and thorn …..

each offering more
than the other can appreciate fully

a single beam of light
that embraces the infinite gap
between reflection and romance …..
of a perfectly still ocean eventide
threatening brilliance and tragedy alike

The pause between breaths …..
between beats …..
between blinks …..
between lives …..

All are the same length
perceived  as
lifetimes of availability

Of the inseparable bond
‘tween ink and papyrus

of brush and canvas …..
of light and mirror …..
of petal and fragrance …..
of heart and beat …..

all …..
all …..
ALL …..

at some point …..

Pleiades:  This titled form was invented in 1999 by Craig Tigerman, Sol Magazine’s Lead Editor. Only one word is allowed in the title followed by a single seven-line stanza. The first word in each line begins with the same letter as the title. Hortensia Anderson, a popular haiku and tanka poet, added her own requirement of restricting the line length to six syllables.

Background of the Pleiades: The Pleiades is a star cluster in the constellation Taurus. It is a cluster of stars identified by the ancients, mentioned by Homer in about 750 B.C and Hesiod in about 700 B.C. Six of the stars are readily visible to the naked eye; depending on visibility conditions between nine and twelve stars can be seen. Modern astronomers note that the cluster contains over 500 stars. The ancients named these stars the seven sisters: Alcyone, Asterope, Celaeno, Electra, Maia, Merope, and Tygeta; nearby are the clearly visible parents, Atlas and Pleione. The poetic form The Pleiades is aptly named: the seven lines can be said to represent the seven sisters, and the six syllables represent the nearly invisible nature of one sister.

Scribe

It is ….. Time

A barefoot, lithe, solitary figure
confidently ascends the narrowing spiral wooden staircase
silently cushioned by each aged teak plank
firm mainstays of her purpose and direction
cascading maestros to her rhythm and intent

Beholden to none
 impartial to every peripheral syllabus
  seeking neither solace nor acclaim
emboldened by neither compass nor map

Scribe knows …..

It is ….. Time

Time ….. to once again
embrace her private domain of ….. Words

Sequestered upon this Isle of Trials
her abode, this mortal lodestar

Scribe seeks not to warn seafarers of danger
nor to provide refuge from fault
  nor sanctuary for the wild

Scribe craves ….. the artistry of Script

Polished wooden stairwell behind her
She suspires deeply upon entering her lighthouse
familiar aromas of wood, ink, paper and teasingly ….. light
  infuse her already heightened senses
nourishing that which she most favours ….. Imagination

Circling clockwise…..
 brushing the embraced bronze chariot
  as her prayer wheel
   educing fond memories
    of faraway Bod

Scribe whispers
her secret, intimate mantra for …..
  Chenrezig

Scribe, completing her lamproom orbit
 approaches her driftwood escritoire
  surveys her simple tools of
   Quill, Inkwell and Papyrus
allows herself to exhale her final mantra
     and sets ….. to Write

It is ….. Time

A solitary erne Quill
 lightweight and encouraging
A faceted diamond Inkwell
 brimming with incoming tide
A pristine kelp Papyrus
 blank, only to the tame

All, attend her will
All, invoke her imagination
All, willing participants to the extraordinary

Scribe smiles coyly,
immersing Quill within Inkwell
  ….. Enraptured …..

Inkwell envelopes Quill
  ….. Enthralled …..

All the while,
  tides within and without
 ebb and flow…..
  rise and fall …..
 immerse and envelope …..

It is ….. Time

Scribe brandishes Quill upon Papyrus
as her imagination caresses our mortal realm
offering glimpses ….. of what might be
   ‘tween Zoe and Bios

A single, perfect opaline tear
escapes from the corner of her eye

Scribe is never certain …..
A tear of joy
 or
A tear of regret……

It is now ….. Scribe’s Time ….. to Write …..

Heart of a Star

Pitched curtain of infinite dark
piercings of stellar infernos

no reason, nor rhyme
save …..
A star for each heartbeat
justly mirrors …..

A heartbeat for each star

~Scribe~

Magical Realism

Novae

Of a star so unimaginably distant
I know not how to behold her light

Of a heart so immeasurably near
I know not where to feel her rhythm

Of a star so infinitely crushed
I know not how to release her light

Of a heart so discretely braced
I know not how to salve her passion

Of a star so irresistibly ablaze
I know not how to shield myself

Of a heart so passionately aflame
I know not how to avert my gaze

Of a universe so seductively intended for……
Novae…..

Of a heart so exquisitely zoetic for…..
Love…..

I know how to cede

Dragons Whiff

Traveller’s Beach

From an outlying locus…..
visible to any ostensibly nearby beholder…..

A lone figure…..
  appearing to kneel in prayer
   comfortably offset on right knee
   perpendicular to Sol and Luna
breathing rhythmically with the silentious Neap Tide
Traveller serenely appreciates his sacred littoral

Traveller balances ‘tween asomatous borders
of intertidal foam and sandy resolve
of reflected auras and mirrored fantasies
of whispered isolation and penultimate quiescence
of obsidian solace and diamond armories…..

His is a fleeting, perfect moment of Tranquility…..

Lingering oceanic breaths
  tickle his dusty brown fedora
all the while…..
his dangling saddlebrown & silvered locks
   sway harmoniously with
    overhead wyverns
all the while…..
  each heartbeat
   belies
    a deep longing…..

Of all his scars
quixotically hidden and readable
  most are healed
    thankful of his youthful outlook
  some are healing
    bandaged by his patient outpost
  very few abide
    unchallenged
only One remains
    purposefully painful

Leaning forward
  reverentially releasing
a handful of sandstars from their tidal sanctuary
    mindful of this interruption
     yet proceeding apologetically
Traveller once more…..
  temporarily caresses his stage
   embracing disparate sandgalaxies
    in his other hand…

He then gently profers
Eternity and Infinity
both now within his newly unshielded grasp…..
    weighing both against each other…..
      …..which is more powerful? Infinity?
      …..which is more freeing? Eternity?
…..and slowly releases his hold on Forevers…..

Scarlet shifted sandgalaxies waterfall at his left…..
Teal infused sandsouls cascade at his right…..
Luminescent tidal bore swirls below…..

Replenished crystalline karma, for
each sandsoul travels not Down, but To…..

O what unfathomable Grace
was attendant
when each unique grain of sand
within this entire cosmos
was created with
equal care
equal compassion
and equal
Ease……

Diurnal tide, Proxigean tide, Spring tide
Always returning to polish, reassure and honour
each and every sandsoul

Traveller is but a single orb on shore
on a universal coast
traversing a fractal pathway of desires

Perhaps now is the time to seek Mapmaker…..
for She is the cartographer
his searching soul must locate
so as to add
a new legend
to his
diary

Thriving, silent pauses exist for a reason…..
  between entwined heartbeats
    to listen to passion…..
  between unbearable solitudes
    to heal loneliness…..
  between passionate words
    to magnify imaginations…..
  between relationships
    to rebirth romance…..

There can be no greater destiny
than to seek out
the infinite sighs of the Universe….

…..and from the shoreline,
   …..his distant beholder…..
Wyvern sheds
   an opaline tear of Patience……

2012, Dragon Musings and…Happy New Year!

Thank you to everyone who has read my “digital scratchings” within Memoirs of a Dragon since June of this year. I am truly humbled by all your kind words and visits to my tiny WordPress “Beach

If, seven months ago, someone had boldly predicted I would be writing poetry on a somewhat-regular basis, I would have immediately informed them that I had barely tried writing poetry before, had hardly written ANYTHING, other than cheques, shopping lists, and computer documentation….AND had no real interest in….poetry!

Well, one simple poem, admittedly a hastily crafted effort, stemming from a profound sadness, forever changed my perspective. I needed to write something! And something seemed to ….“click”. I had surprised myself with my own words!

I am shy, yes, but that trait is more of an internal reality, rather than characterizing any outward expressions. Most people would roll their eyes (and DO!) at my professing to be extremely shy! Ah, but it is only my cover they judge, not my book. Now my book is diagrammed with digital scratchings! There really is a small piece of me in every poem I write. Perhaps I am becoming less shy! Who knows!

A few earlier “scratchings” of mine might describe where I have come from, and potentially where I am going, with my words. I hope I am getting better at writing. My motivation is quite simple: As long as I keep surprising myself, then I shall continue to write.

Here are some legacy “scratchings” from my “distant past”, so very long ago…….

Parturition – The Identity of Self
(My FIRST poem, ever – July 7 2009)

Whispers of Creation
An Imagination of Dragons
Tears of Freedom (Tzu Yo)
A Quiet of Forbearance – II

And thanks to WordPress and their stat helper monkeys for the yearly summary below!

Apparently, my most viewed poem was ‘Journeying….. ‘tween perfection and clarity‘ Thank you all for reading it!

And my own personal favourite, that I enjoyed writing the most was…..“daughter and dad

Happy New Year everyone!
